VEDIO:Women’s Tailoring: Genesis and Evolution

http://blip.tv/file/2851749
I was researching the history/revolution of tailored garments for my own jacket design, and..found this video. The topics covered ranged from a whistle-stop tour of the history of women’s tailoring to an exploration of the practical skills that support it.  It also included the consideration of the physiological aspects, hand-crafting techniques, and the complex psychology that underlies the relationship with one’s customers.
It is quit interesting to learn how the tailored jackets have been done before modern technology has been used. few sample garment was shown as well.
“Women should have same the opportunities for investing in their wardrobes in the same way that they invest in their careers”

says Alan Cannon Jones, Senior Lecturer at the London College of Fashion, she was the second lady in this video. Yes, women's clothing changed dramatically during time along with their social status. modern women requires professional wear more than ever, of course new design has to be created to full fill people's need. new trends in tailored fashion is another subject that has been discussed at the end, and some of the techniques that are used to support them.

WEEK1-TAILORS-TIMOTHY EVEREST

To begin my research on tailors i start with Timothy Everest, he was mentioned in the first week's class  and the work we particularly discussed was the cycling suit. timesuit.jpg

TECHNICAL DRAWING

it was Designed for the sartorially-minded city rider. the suit was inspired by gentleman riders of the 1930s  the suit is the result of a 12-month collaboration between Rapha and Timothy Everest, the renowned Savile Row tailor. The finished product, a jacket, waistcoat and trousers or plus fours, is characterized by its elegant tailoring and luxury finishing, a formal suit that is at home in the boardroom as it is in on the bike.

ILLUSTRATION FOR THE JACKET---Pink details. love it.
The front flipped up so it doesn't get in the way of riding. Pink lining too.

ABOUT THE FABRIC
His choice of fabric for the Rapha suit is an inspired one. Made in Britain, the luxury wool has a traditional Prince of Wales check but has been created using nanotechnology to produce a material which, in addition to looking good, is extremely water and stain resistant. It is also highly versatile, keeping the wearer cool in summer and warm in winter.

Feature-wise, the suit is packed with innovations for on-the-bike practicality and comfort. A ‘storm collar’ fastens at the jacket’s neck to keep out the elements, while the bottoms can be buttoned inside the front
pockets to prevent them flapping when riding.
The jacket also has an ‘action back’, a shoulder pleat similar to those found in shooting jackets, and which allows for extra reach on the bike.
The cuffs can be turned to down to provide better protection for the hands and the undersides of both collar and sleeves are pink, a contemporary twist that also makes the rider more visible.
The suit is  a fully bespoke garment,  £3500 for a 3piece and there is a limited number available.

  • PINK PIPING?
  • Why there's a side pocket with invisiable zip?
